Man dies during police interrogation in Abia
A tragic incident unfolded at the Nigeria Police Force – Abia State Command in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, where a young man, identified as Akobundu Okorie Wisdom from Ozuitem, reportedly slumped and died during interrogation at the Bende Police Division.
According to police sources, the deceased had responded to an invitation by the police for questioning in connection with an unspecified offence. While undergoing interrogation, he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a hospital in the state capital, Umuahia, where medical personnel confirmed his death.
The circumstances surrounding his death have provoked outrage in the community, with residents alleging that he may have been beaten during interrogation, rather than having simply slumped from a natural cause. Protesters gathered at the station and demanded accountability from the police.
In response, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, visited the scene along with other senior officers and assured the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and that the officers involved have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) pending inquiry.
