Ned Nwoko defends polygamy denies abuse
In a recent interview aired on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ned Nwoko defended his practice of polygamy and addressed allegations of domestic violence made by his wife, Regina Daniels. He argued that men with only one wife face difficulties by likening monogamy to “standing on one leg”, saying that a man with multiple wives is more “balanced”.
Nwoko explained: “Just imagine telling you to stand on one foot or leg. You know how difficult it is. But to stand on two, three, four is much more balanced.” He added that he feels “sorry for those who have one wife because it’s difficult to stand on one leg.”
When questioned about the religious basis for polygamy, he pointed to the Old Testament, saying, “The Old Testament does. I am a man of faith.”
Addressing allegations of domestic violence levelled by Regina Daniels, Nwoko denied being violent. He insisted he respects his wives and loves his children, claiming the accusations are false. He further alleged that the marital issues stem from Daniels’ struggle with drug and alcohol abuse, stating she has assaulted staff and destroyed property, which has created problems in their home.
He claimed other wives have never accused him of violence and said the allegations from Daniels are unfounded. “I have other wives, and none will ever accuse me of violence,” he emphasized.
This statement comes amid a highly publicised marriage between the two, which has drawn attention partly due to the significant age difference between them and the fact that he is married to multiple wives. The comments have sparked extensive discussion on polygamy, marital dynamics and gender roles within Nigerian society.
