Nigerian Army rescues kidnapped mother and child in Kwara
Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued a kidnapped mother, her three-year-old son, and another victim during operations in Kwara State.
The rescue occurred on October 11, 2025. The mother has been identified as Mrs. Oluwabusayo Taiwo and her toddler as Taiwo Irayomide. They were abducted from Oke-Ode community on September 28. The Army received intelligence about a suspected bandit camp in the Babanla Forest and moved in swiftly. During the operation, the troops also found a tea seller named Mohammadu Sani, who had been kidnapped in a separate incident. The assailants fled when confronted by the military, abandoning their captives.
The rescued individuals are now receiving medical treatment at a military sick bay and are reported to be in stable condition. The Army pledged to rejoin them with their families soon.
Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, praised the troops for their prompt action and professionalism. He affirmed that the military will step up operations to neutralize criminal elements across vulnerable communities in Kwara State.
The rescue highlights ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to combat banditry in forested areas. The army has also launched deployments to flush out kidnappers from hideouts across forests in Kwara State, aiming to reduce abductions and restore safety for residents.
