Nigerian injured as UAE intercepts Iranian missiles
At least one Nigerian has been reported injured after the United Arab Emirates intercepted a fresh wave of missiles launched from Iran, according to recent reports. The incident occurred amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, where Iranian missile and drone attacks have targeted several Gulf countries.
Authorities in the UAE said their air defence systems successfully intercepted most of the incoming missiles before they could reach their targets. However, falling debris from the intercepted projectiles caused injuries to several residents. Among those affected was at least one Nigerian, who was reportedly among dozens of people injured during the incident.
According to officials from the UAE Ministry of Defence, hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones have been launched from Iran since the conflict intensified in late February. The majority were destroyed mid-air by defence systems, while some fell into the sea or landed within UAE territory. Debris from the interceptions has caused damage in residential and commercial areas, leading to civilian injuries.
Reports indicate that people from several nationalities were among those injured in the attacks, including citizens from African and Asian countries living in the UAE. Emergency services responded quickly to affected locations, treating those with minor and moderate injuries. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and follow official safety instructions as the situation continues to evolve.
The missile attacks are part of a broader regional escalation involving Iran and its adversaries. The growing conflict has raised concerns about civilian safety, disruptions to travel and trade, and the possibility of further military actions across the Gulf region.
