
Nigerian leaders mark International Women’s Day
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, members of the National Association of Seadogs, and the United Bank for Africa joined other prominent leaders and organizations across the country to mark the annual celebration of International Women’s Day.
The celebrations highlighted the achievements of women and emphasized the importance of gender equality, empowerment, and inclusion in national development. Various activities were organized across Nigeria to recognize the contributions of women in leadership, business, politics, and community service.
Speaking during the commemoration, Oluremi Tinubu reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to policies and programs aimed at improving the welfare of women and girls. She emphasized the need for greater support for women in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio also acknowledged the critical role women play in shaping society, noting that women continue to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s political, economic, and social progress. He urged stakeholders to strengthen efforts toward achieving gender balance and equal opportunities.
The National Association of Seadogs used the occasion to advocate for stronger protection of women’s rights and an end to gender-based violence. The group also called for policies that would promote fairness and equal participation of women in governance and decision-making.
Meanwhile, United Bank for Africa reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs through financial inclusion programs and initiatives designed to support female-led businesses. The bank noted that increasing women’s participation in economic activities is essential for sustainable growth and development.
Across the country, advocacy groups, corporate organizations, and government officials used the International Women’s Day celebration to call for stronger action toward gender equality, stressing that empowering women remains a key factor in national development.
