Nigerian police repatriate Turkish fraud convict

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested and repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, who fled Turkey after being convicted of fraud.

According to the police, Huseyin was sentenced earlier this year by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court to 14 years, eight months and 10 days in prison for fraud.

After his conviction, Huseyin escaped Turkey, travelling through the Middle East before arriving in Nigeria in an effort to evade serving his sentence.

In July 2025, the INTERPOL National Central Bureau Abuja issued a Red Notice seeking his arrest and return.

Intelligence-led operations in Abuja resulted in his capture. The necessary paperwork and cooperation with international partners allowed the police to repatriate him to Istanbul, where he is set to serve his prison term.
