Nnamdi Kanu release peace South-East
Senator Ned Nwoko has stated that the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), would be a key step toward peace in Nigeria’s South-East region. According to Nwoko, the region’s protracted unrest is rooted in a long-standing sense of injustice and marginalisation, and resolving that requires bold political gestures.
In remarks during a television interview, Nwoko explained that along with the creation of a new state Anioma State from parts of Delta State to become the sixth state in the South-East zone, the release of Kanu would go a long way toward restoring calm. He stated: “By the time you do these two things … I am almost certain that peace will return to the South-East.”
On the detention of Kanu, Nwoko described it as “unjust and unnecessary” and argued that it has deepened grievances in the region.
