NSCDC arrests fake lawmaker and accomplices for forgery
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a syndicate of four individuals in Abuja on charges of impersonation, forgery and criminal conspiracy. The prime suspect, Hassan Sani Jikan Mallam, is accused of falsely presenting himself as a member of the House of Representatives for Katsina Central Constituency and issuing fraudulent documents to government agencies and foreign embassies.
According to statements from the Corps, Mallam produced letters, dispatch-envelopes and complimentary cards using the insignia of the “National Assembly” and posed as a lawmaker to gain access to ministries, embassies and other agencies. Among those arrested alongside him are Obeten John, Abubakar Mohammed and Lucky Ndirika Emenike.
Investigators found that the group rented a Toyota Prado SUV (registration ABC 359 GN), hired a security entourage including at least one alleged police officer, and used the vehicle to visit various high-profile locations in Abuja under the pretext of being an Honourable Member of the House of Representatives.
Recovered items from the arrests include forged National Assembly letterheads, dispatch envelopes, complimentary cards, and documents addressed to multiple embassies—among them the embassies of Spain, France, the Netherlands and China.
The NSCDC’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) confirmed all four suspects have made confessions. The case is now being prepared for prosecution in a competent court to serve as a deterrent to others who may attempt similar impersonation schemes. The Corps has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals claiming to hold public office.
