NSCDC dismisses officers for gross misconduct
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed 38 senior officers and 20 other personnel as part of a major disciplinary action for gross misconduct and related offences. The Commandant-General of the Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, disclosed that the dismissals followed recommendations by disciplinary committees and approval from the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board under the Ministry of Interior, reflecting a drive to restore professionalism within the organisation.
According to the NSCDC’s spokesperson, the senior officers, including an Assistant Commandant-General (ACG), were found guilty of gross misconduct, insubordination, and acts unbecoming of superior officers in line with the Public Service Rules (PSR). In addition to the 38 senior officers dismissed, 20 junior personnel were also removed from service after disciplinary committee hearings found them culpable of offences such as job racketeering, extortion, fraudulent practices, gun-running and other serious violations of the Corps’ code of conduct.
The disciplinary sweep also resulted in several other sanctions: some officers were demoted by one or two ranks, and others received warning letters as part of efforts to deter future misconduct. Prof. Audi explained that these measures are intended to strengthen the Corps’ operational integrity and reinforce public confidence in its statutory duties.
The NSCDC leadership emphasised that discipline and professionalism are critical as the Corps expands its roles and responsibilities, and urged remaining personnel to uphold the highest standards while carrying out their duties.
