Ogun mourns victims of crash involving Anthony Joshua
Ogun State has expressed deep sorrow and sympathy for the victims of a tragic road crash that involved world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua. The fatal accident happened on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway at the Makun axis in Ogun, and authorities say two male foreign nationals died at the scene when the vehicle carrying Joshua collided with a stationary truck. Their bodies were taken to the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu as investigations continue into the exact circumstances of the collision. The state government described the incident as deeply painful and extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and associates of those who lost their lives in the crash. Officials also noted that other individuals sustained injuries and are receiving medical care at local hospitals while urging motorists to exercise greater caution on the busy expressway, especially during the festive season when traffic is heavy. Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps has said preliminary findings suggest factors such as excessive speed and wrongful overtaking may have contributed to the accident, and a thorough investigation is now underway. President Bola Tinubu and other national figures have also conveyed sympathy to Joshua and the families of the deceased, highlighting the sorrow that the incident has brought to the nation. Anthony Joshua himself survived the crash, sustaining minor injuries, and is currently receiving medical attention. The tragic event has drawn widespread attention and mourning both within Nigeria and among the international sporting community.
