Ondo police arrest suspect for car theft

Police operatives in Ondo State have arrested a man accused of stealing a car after tricking its owner into drinking alcohol laced with a sedative. The incident reportedly occurred in Akure, the state capital, where the suspect allegedly deceived the car owner into trusting him before carrying out the theft.

According to the police, the suspect offered the victim an alcoholic drink that had been secretly mixed with a sleeping substance. Shortly after consuming the drink, the car owner fell unconscious, giving the suspect an opportunity to drive away with the vehicle. The victim later regained consciousness and reported the theft to the police, leading to a swift investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the stolen car was traced and recovered within a short time. The suspect was apprehended following intelligence gathered by the police and is now in custody as investigations continue. Police sources revealed that the man will face charges related to theft and criminal deception once the investigation is concluded.

The state police spokesperson assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling rising cases of vehicle theft and other forms of criminal activity across Ondo. He urged the public to be cautious when accepting drinks or assistance from strangers, as such tactics have recently been linked to several similar cases in the region.
