PDP suspends National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the one-month suspension of its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu (Senator), along with three other key national officers. The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Saturday.
According to the party’s official statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, the four officers suspended are: Samuel Anyanwu (National Secretary), Umar Bature (National Organising Secretary), Kamaldeen Ajibade (National Legal Adviser), and Okechukwu Osuoha (Deputy National Legal Adviser). All four have been referred to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee for further action.
The statement added that while suspended, the officers shall cease to function in their respective capacities. In the case of the National Secretary, the Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, has been directed to act in the role during the suspension period. For the Legal Adviser and Deputy Legal Adviser positions, the party’s National Director of Legal Services has been instructed to oversee the department.
The action comes in the wake of the party’s concerns over alleged “anti-party activities”, as stated by the NWC. These activities are said to include acts that breach the party’s constitution, bring it into disrepute, or foster divisions among members. The suspension is being viewed as part of the PDP’s efforts to enforce discipline and uphold internal processes ahead of its planned national convention.
This development is significant as it underscores escalating tensions within the party, particularly with upcoming organisational and electoral processes where internal cohesion is critical. The suspension of such senior officials may not only affect immediate administrative arrangements but could also impact the party’s preparations and unity leading into future conventions or elections.
