Peace deal with bandits showing results in Katsina
Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, popularly known as Governor Radda, has stated that the peace deal initiated between the state government and bandit groups is yielding positive results. Speaking during a recent briefing, he highlighted that the agreement has led to the release of several kidnapped victims and a notable reduction in violent attacks across affected communities.
Governor Radda explained that the initiative involves dialogue with repentant bandits, community engagement, and the implementation of amnesty measures for those who surrender their weapons. According to him, these measures have encouraged some criminal elements to abandon violence and return to peaceful livelihoods, which has improved security and restored confidence among residents.
He added that the government continues to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that the peace process does not compromise law enforcement efforts. Authorities are maintaining surveillance and monitoring surrendered individuals to prevent recidivism and ensure compliance with the terms of the deal.
The governor emphasized that while challenges remain, the early successes of the peace initiative demonstrate that dialogue and rehabilitation can complement traditional security operations in addressing the banditry crisis. He urged communities to support the program by reporting criminal activities and promoting reconciliation.
The announcement has been welcomed by many residents and observers who see it as a pragmatic approach to reducing violence and fostering stability in Katsina State, a region that has been severely affected by kidnappings and bandit attacks over the past several years.
