Police arrest fake officers in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of an inter-state criminal syndicate who have been posing as law enforcement officers to deceive unsuspecting victims across different states in northern Nigeria. The suspects were apprehended after a coordinated operation carried out by the command’s intelligence unit.
According to the police spokesperson, the gang specialized in impersonating police and military personnel to extort money, intimidate citizens, and gain illegal access to restricted areas. They allegedly operated across Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Jigawa States, using fake uniforms, identity cards, and vehicle stickers to appear legitimate.
During the operation, officers recovered several police and military uniforms, forged identity cards, and unregistered vehicles believed to have been used in their criminal activities. The suspects were said to have confessed to the crime and revealed that they had been operating for over a year before being caught.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, assured residents that the command remains committed to ridding the state of criminal elements. He urged the public to always verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a law enforcement officer to avoid falling victim to impostors. The suspects are expected to be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
