Police deploy special security squads ahead of Tinubu’s Borno visit
The Nigeria Police Force has deployed special tactical teams, surveillance squads, crowd control units and Explosive Ordnance Disposal operatives in Borno State ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the state on Saturday, security officials said in a statement from the Borno State Police Command. The move is part of a robust security architecture designed to ensure the safety of the President and residents during his official engagements in the region, which remains vulnerable to insurgency-related threats.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Nahum Daso, the state police spokesman, said conventional officers were also deployed alongside the specialised units to secure Maiduguri and surrounding areas and to help manage large crowds expected during Tinubu’s itinerary. The command warned that there may be temporary vehicular restrictions and road diversions, particularly on the route from Airport Road to Shehu Road, to facilitate the smooth movement of official convoys and safeguard public order.
The police reassured residents of their commitment to protecting lives and property before, during and after the visit, urging continued cooperation, vigilance and support from the public as security operations remain in place.
