Rescued kidnap victim gives birth at Kogi IDP camp
The Kogi State Government has announced that a rescued kidnap victim gave birth to twin girls at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, highlighting both the challenges and resilience of those affected by insecurity in the state. The woman, who was recently freed from captivity, delivered the twins safely under medical supervision provided by health personnel at the camp.
Officials said the mother and her newborns are in stable condition, receiving necessary postnatal care. The Kogi State Ministry of Health confirmed that emergency and maternal health services at IDP camps have been strengthened to handle such cases, ensuring that vulnerable individuals, including women rescued from kidnappers, receive proper medical attention.
The government described the birth as a symbol of hope and resilience amid the ongoing security challenges in parts of Kogi State. Authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and providing humanitarian support to internally displaced persons, including food, shelter, healthcare, and psychosocial assistance.
Social welfare officers and camp administrators have also been mobilized to support the mother and her family, ensuring the twins’ immediate needs are met. Residents and humanitarian organizations have expressed joy and solidarity, celebrating the safe delivery despite the difficult circumstances surrounding displacement and abduction.
