Sanwo-Olu signs ₦4.4trn 2026 Lagos budget into law
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has signed the ₦4.4 trillion 2026 budget into law, formally setting the state’s fiscal framework for the upcoming year. The appropriation bill, dubbed the “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” was approved by the Lagos State House of Assembly earlier this month after weeks of legislative review and scrutiny.
The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Conference Room of Lagos House, Alausa Secretariat in Ikeja, with key government officials present, including Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council, the Head of Service Bode Agoro, lawmakers and other senior stakeholders involved in the budget process.
The total authorised expenditure of ₦4,444,509,776,438 marks a significant financial roadmap for the state’s government and its plans for the year. The budget is structured to provide legal backing for Lagos State’s development agenda across key sectors, including healthcare, education, housing, security, transportation and social services.
Governor Sanwo-Olu had presented the appropriation bill to the state assembly in late 2025, outlining a spending plan designed to drive inclusive economic growth, accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen governance and focus on people-centred policies. The state officials indicated that the implementation of the budget will be closely monitored to ensure funds are effectively deployed and that the benefits reach residents across Lagos communities.
The approval and signing of this budget into law position Lagos to pursue its strategic priorities for the 2026 fiscal year, aiming to improve living standards and sustain development across the state.
