Two schoolchildren died after being electrocuted while seeking shelter from heavy rain in Anambra State. The tragic incident happened in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, at a place called St. Peter’s Claver Junction. Eyewitnesses and CCTV footage show that several pupils had gathered under a roadside shop to escape the downpour when two of them made contact with a metal object that had become electrified. They collapsed immediately and were pronounced dead. Others nearby narrowly escaped harm. The state police confirmed the incident and said they have ordered an investigation into how the electrocution occurred. Residents are mourning and demanding that electricity infrastructure around public spaces be inspected to avert further tragedies.
