Sean Dyche appointed Nottingham Forest manager
Sean Dyche has officially been appointed as Nottingham Forest’s head coach, signing a contract that runs until the summer of 2027. He takes over following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, who was relieved of his duties after just 39 days in charge.
Forest are currently in a precarious position, sitting 18th in the Premier League with just five points from eight matches when Dyche’s appointment was announced. His immediate challenge includes a Europa League match against FC Porto and a Premier League fixture soon after.
Dyche brings a reputation for strong defensive teams and relegation-fighting experience, from his long stint at Burnley and his time at Everton. One notable angle is that he once played as a youth at Forest, so his return is something of a homecoming. Under his management, the club says he will instil the basic foundations of organisation, fitness and solidity, while giving players “the freedom to play”.
However, not everyone is convinced the appointment signals an upward shift. Some pundits believe that the club’s move from hiring more progressive-minded coaches to Dyche’s pragmatic approach may suggest Forest are prioritising survival over ambition this season.
