sexual abuse nine-year-old Yobe
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the sexual abuse of a nine-year-old girl in the Nayi-Nawa area of Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State. Reports from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, indicate that investigations show the suspect had on multiple occasions lured the child into a timber-shed shop where the abuse allegedly took place. The victim has been rescued, medically examined and remains under care, while the suspect is currently in custody pending further investigation by the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
This arrest is part of the command’s ongoing efforts to curb sexual offences against minors. The statement emphasised that the matter is being actively prosecuted with urgency. Community members are being urged to alert authorities when children are in vulnerable situations and to support the policing action against perpetrators. The lawful treatment of minors and the importance of specialised investigative units in such crimes have been highlighted in past cases of child sexual abuse in Nigeria.
