SGF George Akume marries Ooni of Ife’s ex-wife Queen Zaynab
Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has reportedly married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. Family sources made the announcement on Friday, December 26, 2025, saying the union is a “beautiful and uncommon” addition to the Akume household. The news was shared by Abraham Double-d Dajoh, a member of the Akume Dajoh family, in a celebratory post on social media welcoming Queen Zaynab into the family and into Benue State, where Akume hails from and where the couple has been received with warm cultural greetings.
Queen Zaynab, formerly Zaynab Otiti Obanor, was previously married to the Ooni of Ife in 2016 in a widely publicised traditional wedding but the marriage ended in 2017 after approximately 17 months. In the past, she was known as Olori Wuraola during her time as queen before officially confirming the end of that marriage and later relocating abroad. Akume’s spokesman has confirmed the marriage but clarified that the couple had been married for over a year, not newly wed during the recent holiday period as some reports suggested.
The development has generated significant attention online and in political circles because of both Akume’s high-level role in the federal government and Queen Zaynab’s past royal profile. The social media announcement extended festive wishes and expressed gratitude to supporters of the SGF as they begin this new chapter together.
