Single Travel Emergency Passport
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced that it will introduce a new travel document called the Single Travel Emergency Passport (STEP) for Nigerians abroad, replacing the current Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC).
According to the announcement by the NIS Comptroller-General Kemi Nanna Nandap during a high-level migration meeting, the STEP is designed to help Nigerians overseas whose passports have been lost, stolen or expired, enabling them to return home securely.
The new emergency passport will be issued at designated Nigerian embassies and consulates abroad and will be valid for single-entry travel only.
This initiative forms part of NIS’s broader reforms aimed at strengthening identity management, enhancing border governance, and aligning Nigeria’s migration services with global best practices.
