Slovakia high-speed train crash

Two high-speed trains collided head-on in eastern Slovakia near the town of Rožňava on Monday morning. The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. local time when one or both trains were traveling at speed. Slovak Railways estimates around 80 passengers were on board at the time.

Officials report that dozens of people were injured, though the majority suffered minor injuries. Two passengers are in critical condition and are being treated at hospital.

The front of one engine was severely damaged while at least one carriage from the other train derailed. Rescue teams, including emergency medical services and police, were dispatched immediately, and the priority has been evacuating the injured and securing the crash site.

Interior Minister Matuš Šutaj Eštok has suggested that human error may have played a role in the accident. Investigations are already underway to determine the precise cause
