Tinubu nominates Lamido Yuguda CBN Deputy Governor
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Lamido Yuguda as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The nomination forms part of efforts to strengthen leadership within the country’s central banking system and reinforce financial sector governance.
According to an official communication from the presidency, the nomination has been forwarded to the Nigerian Senate for screening and confirmation. Senators are expected to review Yuguda’s professional experience, policy background, and qualifications before making a final decision on the appointment.
Lamido Yuguda previously served as the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he oversaw regulatory reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and improving investor confidence in Nigeria’s capital market. Analysts say his experience in financial regulation and market oversight could contribute to policy development at the Central Bank.
The Central Bank of Nigeria plays a critical role in managing the country’s monetary policy, supervising banking institutions, and maintaining financial system stability. Deputy governors assist in implementing key monetary policies and overseeing different operational departments within the bank.
Economic observers note that leadership appointments at the Central Bank often attract strong attention because of the institution’s influence on inflation control, interest rates, and economic stability. If confirmed by the Senate, Yuguda will join the leadership team responsible for guiding Nigeria’s monetary policy and strengthening the country’s financial management framework.
