Tinubu promises to reduce inflation in 2026
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will significantly reduce inflation in 2026 and ensure that every household feels the positive impact of ongoing economic reforms. In his New Year message to the nation, the President acknowledged the economic difficulties faced by many families but expressed confidence that the policies introduced so far will begin to deliver visible relief in the coming year. He said the government remains fully committed to stabilising the economy, strengthening the naira, and improving the purchasing power of citizens through sustained fiscal and monetary measures.
Tinubu explained that 2026 will be a year of consolidation, with reforms already implemented in key sectors expected to translate into better living conditions for ordinary Nigerians. He noted that efforts to boost local production, support small and medium-scale businesses, and attract both local and foreign investment are central to the plan to curb inflation and create jobs. According to him, targeted social intervention programmes will also be expanded to protect vulnerable households and ensure that economic growth is inclusive.
The President further stated that his administration will continue to prioritise food security, energy stability, and infrastructure development as part of a broader strategy to ease pressure on household expenses. He called on Nigerians to remain patient and united, stressing that while reforms can be difficult in the short term, they are necessary to build a stronger and more resilient economy. Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to transparent governance and pledged that the government would listen to citizens and adjust policies where necessary to deliver better outcomes.
As Nigerians usher in the new year, the President urged citizens to remain hopeful and supportive of national efforts to reposition the country. He expressed optimism that 2026 would mark a turning point where the benefits of reforms become more evident across communities, promising that his government would continue to work tirelessly to improve the welfare and prosperity of all Nigerians.
