Truck plunges off Oshodi Bridge, man escapes death

A heavy-six-tyre truck has plunged off the Oshodi Bridge (inward Mile 2) in Lagos after reportedly losing its brakes while descending the bridge.

According to officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck, registration number AKD 135 YK, was fully loaded with printing-toner materials and skidded off the carriageway into the terminal ditch below after its brake system failed.

Rescue teams arrived swiftly and extricated a man from the wreckage who sustained serious injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

The driver of the truck has been apprehended by police from the Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, for further investigation into the cause of the mechanical failure and other contributory factors.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday morning, could have resulted in multiple casualties given the load and the location, but the prompt response of the agencies prevented a larger tragedy.
