Trump confirms Diddy pardon request
President Trump has confirmed that Sean “Diddy” Combs asked him for a presidential pardon after the rapper’s conviction on prostitution-related charges. Trump told reporters that he often receives pardon requests and that Combs — whom he referred to by his former stage name “Puff Daddy” — is among those who sought clemency.
Combs was sentenced on October 3, 2025, to 50 months in federal prison for two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for illicit sexual activity under the Mann Act. He also faces a fine of $500,000. The sentence accounts for the roughly 12 months he already spent in federal detention since his arrest in September 2024.
His legal team has asked that Combs serve his sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, citing the prison’s drug rehabilitation program and its proximity to family. They argue that placement there would aid his recovery and allow greater visitation access. The decision lies with the Bureau of Prisons, pending court endorsement.
Combs’ attorneys have also signaled plans to appeal his sentence. They contend that the judge overstepped by effectively “acting as a 13th juror” in recalibrating the punishment beyond what the jury verdict alone would warrant.
Trump’s admission does not guarantee a pardon will be granted. He said he would consult the Department of Justice before making any decision. He also discussed another high-profile clemency possibility — Ghislaine Maxwell, who was convicted in connection with the Jeffrey Epstein case. The Supreme Court recently declined to hear her appeal.
Whatever Trump ultimately does, the confirmation of Combs’ pardon request adds another twist to an already contentious and politically charged legal saga.
