Trump demands clarity from Ukraine before supplying Tomahawk missiles

U.S. President Donald Trump has said he needs to understand how Ukraine intends to use Tomahawk missiles before agreeing to send them, citing concerns over escalation in the war with Russia.

Trump’s remarks, made at the White House, follow requests from Ukraine for long-range weaponry to strengthen its ability to strike deep into Russian territory. He noted that while a decision has “sort of” been made, clarity about target planning and deployment is required first.

The Tomahawk cruise missile can travel up to 2,500 kilometres, a range that places Moscow within reach if deployed from Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that supplying such missiles would severely harm U.S.-Russia relations.

Vice President J. D. Vance has said that discussions are underway, and that Trump will take a final decision in what he considers to be in the United States’ best interest.
