two drug barons arrested in Delta, illicit drugs seized
The Delta State Police have made major arrests in recent operations targeting drug trafficking. Two alleged drug barons were apprehended, and large quantities of illicit drugs were seized in separate raids.
In Afisere, Ughelli, police arrested Egbule Isioma, who runs a chemist shop opposite the Town Hall. She was seized along with three female apprentices—Mercy John, Favour John, and Amarachi Ngozi—following credible reports of her involvement in supplying hard drugs to Ughelli and nearby communities. Searches of her residence produced a substantial haul of narcotics, including 355 bottles of CSC codeine, rolls of tramadol in 50mg and 100mg doses, 200mg “Super Royal”, 540 sachets of Swinol, seven packs of Backwoods, and cups of Canadian liquid cannabis.
In a related move, officers from the Eagle-Net Special Squad, working with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service, intercepted a truck driven by Dennis Uruma (52 years old) of Kogi State. The truck, registration 3BGT 18LG, was found to contain large quantities of suspected illicit drugs. Uruma was arrested at the scene, and police are still tallying the exact amounts recovered.
Both operations underscore the Delta State Police Command’s renewed focus on rooting out drug syndicates through intelligence-led raids. Investigations are ongoing to trace criminal supply chains and hold all involved parties accountable.
