UNILAG bans skit-making and content creation on campus
University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced a new directive that prohibits all forms of skit-making, content creation, filming of videos, and other cinematographic activities on its campus without prior approval.
In an official statement signed by the Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the university noted that its premises including hostels, academic buildings and other facilities have seen increasing unauthorised use by skit-makers, filmmakers and social media content creators. The management said this trend is of concern because it can undermine the academic and residential environment, as well as affect the institution’s reputation.
The directive mandates that any person or group whether a student, staff member or external collaborator who intends to shoot videos, make skits or produce cinematographic content within the university must obtain prior authorisation from the university’s Communication Unit located on the 7th Floor, Senate House, Akoka.
While UNILAG emphasised that it continues to support creativity and responsible expression, it underlined that all such activities must align with its established guidelines, which are designed to ensure safety, maintain decorum, protect the institution’s facilities and preserve the integrity of its academic and residential spaces.
