Uti Nwachukwu reacts to Tomama’s video on her mother’s first husband’s quest for a son
Nigerian actor and media personality Uti Nwachukwu has reacted to a viral video in which fellow media figure Tomama, also known as Dat Warri Girl, shared a personal family story about her mother’s first husband and his long quest to have a son. In the video, Tomama explained that her mother’s first marriage ended because she bore only daughters, and her husband continued marrying multiple women in search of a male child. According to her account, he eventually got a son in his seventh marriage, but a recent DNA test revealed the boy was not biologically his, a twist that left many viewers surprised. Meanwhile, Tomama’s mother later remarried and went on to have three sons with her subsequent husband.
Reacting to the narration, Uti Nwachukwu used the opportunity to speak against harmful beliefs that unfairly place the blame for childbearing challenges solely on women. In his comment, he noted that many men fail to recognise that issues like sperm quality, chromosome conditions and other biological factors can influence fertility and a pregnancy’s outcome, rather than it being the woman’s fault alone. Uti stressed that anyone who still prioritises the idea of fathering only a particular gender over equity and peace in relationships “does not deserve the gift of experiencing peace in their mistreatment of others.” His response resonated with many viewers who see such attitudes as outdated and rooted in sexism.
Tomama’s post and Uti’s reaction have both sparked conversation online about cultural expectations around gender and fertility, and how these pressures can affect relationships. The conversation reflects broader debates within Nigerian society about traditional beliefs, personal dignity and the emotional cost of attributing a family’s happiness solely to the birth of a male child.
