A 40-year-old mother of three, Alicia Stone a veteran detective with the New York Police Department (NYPD) has died in Colombia just one week after undergoing a cosmetic procedure involving liposuction and a “butt lift.”

According to reports, Stone travelled to Colombia and underwent the surgery on October 16, 2025. A week later she was found unresponsive in her hotel room in Cali and was later pronounced dead at the Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital. Her cause of death has been listed as “unspecified cardiac arrest.”

Her husband, Michael Stone, expressed deep shock and said he will request an autopsy and full investigation, stating that his wife appeared to be fine just prior to the procedure and that “something doesn’t add up.”

This case brings renewed attention to the serious medical risks associated with cosmetic surgeries, especially when conducted abroad and under potentially less regulated conditions. Studies show that procedures such as the “Brazilian Butt Lift” (BBL) carry a significantly higher mortality risk than many people may realise.
