Zlatan Ibile on fatherhood and financial fears

Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has opened up about how fatherhood and the fear of financial instability significantly changed his life. In a recent appearance on the podcast Is This A Safe Space?, he shared that becoming a father at age 25 was a wake-up call. He said the birth of his son “changed” him and made him realise life was becoming much more serious.

Zlatan revealed that once he welcomed his child, he was suddenly confronted with real financial responsibilities. For example, he said that he began paying house rent in London at a young age and admitted he feared he might not remain relevant in the music industry long enough to support his family. “I wasn’t prepared,” he said in the interview.

Because of this, he described how he changed his spending habits, took his finances more seriously, and cut off certain behaviours that were incompatible with his new role as a father. He noted that saving for diapers and limiting unnecessary expenditures became part of his routine.

Zlatan’s reflections offer a candid look into how unexpected early fatherhood and career pressure can drive personal growth. For him, the combination of a young family and the volatile nature of the entertainment industry created a strong incentive to stabilise both his life and career.
