Samburu murder suspect kills wife and children

Detectives in Kenya are searching for a man accused of murdering his wife and two children in Samburu County, in what police describe as a brutal and tragic case. The suspect, 28-year-old Wycliffe Otieno Odero, is wanted in connection with the killings which unfolded in late September at a rented house on the Maralal-Nyahururu road in the Yare area of Samburu Central Sub-County.

According to investigating officers, Odero returned home drunk and attacked his wife, Ann Njeri Atheera, fatally stabbing her. He then turned on their two young daughters, Natalia Nyambura, aged six, and Tyra Jones, aged four, who were asleep at the time. Police say he slit the children’s throats and fled the scene immediately after the crime.

Authorities from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have appealed to the public for help in locating Odero. They have encouraged anyone with information to report to nearby police stations or use available tip lines. The investigation is ongoing, and effort is being made to preserve any evidence that may lead to his capture.

This case has shocked local communities. It has renewed calls for stronger interventions to address domestic violence and mental health issues in rural areas. Observers say there is urgent need for support systems for families under stress, and more proactive responses from law enforcement to reports of domestic disputes before they escalate to violence.
