Darius McCrary arrested on felony warrant
Darius McCrary, best known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the hit sitcom Family Matters, was arrested near the U.S.–Mexico border on Sunday, October 5, 2025. He was taken into custody by the U.S. Border Patrol and is now being held in a San Diego jail without bail. According to court records and booking data, the arrest stems from a felony warrant issued by Michigan related to a missed court appearance in a child support case.
Officials describe the arrest as a “fugitive arrest,” meaning McCrary was wanted by another state. The warrant in question reportedly originates from Michigan, where McCrary allegedly failed to appear in court during proceedings tied to unpaid child support.
In a public statement, McCrary’s representative explained that he did not know about the warrant. She said that notice of the court appearance was sent to his P.O. Box, which he had not been checking because he had been sick with COVID-19. She claimed he would have addressed it had he known.
McCrary is scheduled to appear in San Diego court on October 15, where the case will formally begin.
This is not the first time McCrary has faced legal trouble related to child support. In 2023, he was arrested again over failure to pay child support, with records indicating arrears of more than $52,000. His legal struggles date back further, including previous arrests tied to similar nonpayment claims.
McCrary has not issued his own public comment since the arrest. Observers will be watching the upcoming court proceedings to see whether Michigan authorities seek to extradite him and how McCrary’s defense will address the missed appearance and warrant.
