A woman in her mid-20s was arrested in South Delhi’s Madangir area after allegedly pouring hot oil and sprinkling red chilli powder on her husband while he was asleep.

The victim, identified as Dinesh Kumar, works as a medical representative. On the night of the attack, after returning home late and having dinner, he fell asleep. At around 3:15 a.m., he woke up feeling severe burning as his wife, Sadhna, allegedly poured boiling oil on his body and then threw chilli powder on the burns.

The couple’s eight-year-old daughter was reportedly in the house at the time.

When he cried for help, neighbours and the landlord were alarmed. They eventually forced the door open and found him in pain. Dinesh was first taken to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, then referred to Safdarjung Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

Sadhna allegedly threatened him during the attack, warning that if he made noise she would pour more oil.

Police have registered a case against her at Ambedkar Nagar Police Station, under charges that include causing grievous hurt by dangerous means.
