Nigerian Wrestler Oba Femi Defeats Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam
Nigerian-born WWE Superstar Oba Femi delivered a stunning victory over Brock Lesnar in a brutal Hell in a Cell match to close out Night One of WWE SummerSlam 2026, capping off one of the most talked-about rivalries in recent WWE history in front of a roaring crowd at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday.
The high-stakes clash served as the rubber match between the two heavyweights, following a split of their first two encounters. Femi had shocked the wrestling world by defeating Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 earlier this year, before Lesnar returned the favour with a controversial win at WWE’s Clash in Italy event, handing Femi his first singles loss on the main roster.
The Hell in a Cell contest lived up to its billing as one of the most punishing matches of the year, with the two competitors utilising steel chairs, ring steps, tables, and even the ring’s exposed wooden boards throughout the encounter. The match opened with Femi landing heavy body shots and a running clothesline, only for Lesnar to respond with a series of German suplexes. Femi bounced back quickly, sending Lesnar to the outside before delivering a suplex and driving him shoulder-first through a table set up in the corner of the cage.
Lesnar seized control in the middle stages, striking Femi with the ring steps before unleashing a barrage of German suplexes and repeated steel chair shots to the back. In one of the match’s most dramatic moments, Lesnar tore apart the ring canvas to expose the wooden boards beneath before delivering a tombstone piledriver on the exposed surface, a spot from which Femi remarkably kicked out.
The two men continued to trade momentum, with Femi escaping an F5 attempt to land a chokeslam and a spinebuster, before ultimately sealing the win with his signature Fall From Grace finishing manoeuvre. Commentator Michael Cole declared the moment a defining one for the promotion’s newest breakout star.
Following the bout, Lesnar entered the ring to embrace Femi and requested a microphone, telling the Minneapolis crowd and viewers at home that Femi represented the future of WWE while referring to himself as the past. The gesture was widely seen as Lesnar formally passing the torch to the rising Nigerian star, though it stopped short of confirming a permanent retirement, with some speculation suggesting Lesnar could return to WWE competition next year.
The victory further cements what has been a breakout year for Femi, who also won the 2026 King of the Ring tournament by defeating Jey Uso at Night of Champions after progressing through a Fatal Four-Way and a semifinal win over Dominik Mysterio. His triumph over one of WWE’s most decorated stars in Lesnar has firmly established him as one of the promotion’s most prominent young talents heading into the remainder of 2026.
