Akpabio Urges Global Lawmakers to Promote Peace and Justice at IPU Assembly
President of the Nigerian Senate Godswill Akpabio has called on parliaments around the world to take stronger action in defending peace, justice, and democratic values during the ongoing assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Akpabio made the appeal while addressing delegates at the global parliamentary gathering, where lawmakers from different countries convened to discuss pressing international issues. He emphasized the critical role of legislative institutions in promoting stability, resolving conflicts, and strengthening governance across nations.
In his remarks, Akpabio noted that rising global tensions and conflicts require urgent and coordinated responses from lawmakers. He urged parliaments to enact policies that support peaceful coexistence, protect human rights, and ensure justice for all citizens. He added that legislative bodies must remain committed to accountability and transparency in governance.
The Senate President also highlighted the importance of collaboration among nations, stating that global challenges such as insecurity, economic instability, and climate change cannot be addressed in isolation. He encouraged lawmakers to work together through platforms like the IPU to share ideas and develop sustainable solutions.
Akpabio further stressed that democracy must be protected through strong institutions and active citizen participation. He called for increased efforts to build trust between governments and the people, noting that inclusive governance is key to long-term peace and development.
The IPU assembly continues to serve as a major forum for dialogue among parliaments, providing an opportunity for leaders to exchange views and strengthen international cooperation. Akpabio’s message reflects Nigeria’s position on the need for a united global effort to uphold peace, justice, and democratic principles.
