Arsenal Confirm Leandro Trossard’s £17m Move to Besiktas
Arsenal have confirmed the permanent transfer of Belgian winger Leandro Trossard to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas in a deal worth approximately £17 million, bringing an end to the attacker’s three-and-a-half-year spell at the Emirates Stadium.
The 31-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Besiktas, with the option of a further year, after completing his medical in Istanbul. The transfer fee is reported to be around €18 million (approximately £17 million), with the payment to be made in instalments over the next three years.
Arsenal announced that an agreement had been reached with the Turkish club and thanked Trossard for his contributions during his time in North London. The Belgium international joined the Gunners from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023 and quickly became an important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
During his spell at Arsenal, Trossard made 174 appearances in all competitions, scoring 36 goals and providing numerous assists. His versatility allowed him to play across the front line, operating as a left winger, right winger, central forward and attacking midfielder whenever required. His performances helped Arsenal end their 22-year wait for a Premier League title, while he also featured prominently in domestic cup and European competitions.
Last season, Trossard contributed six Premier League goals and six assists, once again proving to be a reliable attacking option. His ability to deliver important goals in crucial matches made him a favourite among Arsenal supporters throughout his time at the club.
Speaking after completing the move, Trossard expressed his excitement about beginning a new chapter in Turkey. He said he was looking forward to representing Besiktas and helping the club compete for major honours in the Turkish Super Lig and European competitions.
Besiktas officials welcomed the Belgian international, describing him as a player with vast Premier League experience who will add quality, leadership and creativity to the squad. The Istanbul-based club has been active in the transfer market as it seeks to strengthen its team ahead of the new campaign.
For Arsenal, Trossard’s departure is expected to create room for further attacking reinforcements during the summer transfer window. Reports indicate that the Gunners are already pursuing new wide players as manager Mikel Arteta continues to reshape his squad for another Premier League title challenge.
Football analysts believe the transfer could benefit both clubs. Besiktas gain an experienced international with a proven track record in one of Europe’s toughest leagues, while Arsenal receive funds that can be reinvested into strengthening other areas of the squad.
Supporters have taken to social media to thank Trossard for his service to Arsenal, with many praising his professionalism and ability to make an impact whether starting matches or coming off the bench. His memorable goals and consistent performances ensured he leaves the Emirates with the respect of fans and teammates alike.
As Trossard begins a new challenge in Turkey, Arsenal will now focus on completing additional transfer business before the new season begins. Besiktas, meanwhile, will hope the Belgian forward can play a leading role in their pursuit of domestic success and a strong campaign in European competition.
