Arsenal Reach Carabao Cup Fourth Round After Beating Ipswich, Await Next Opponent
Arsenal booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after defeating Ipswich Town 4-2 at Portman Road on Tuesday night. The victory sent the Gunners into the last 16 of the competition and kept their cup campaign on track.
Max Dowman was the standout performer for Arsenal, scoring twice in an impressive display. Noni Madueke and Mikel Merino also found the net as Mikel Arteta’s heavily rotated side secured a comfortable victory over Ipswich.
Arsenal’s next Carabao Cup opponent had not been confirmed when the latest reports were published. The fourth-round draw is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, following Manchester United’s third-round match against Brighton and Hove Albion.
There is no seeding or regional restriction in the fourth-round draw. This means Arsenal can be paired with any of the other teams that qualify for the last 16. Confirmed teams in the draw include Bournemouth, Bradford City, Brentford, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Peterborough United and Sunderland.
Five additional places will be decided by the remaining third-round matches. These include Coventry City or Aston Villa, Everton or Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fleetwood Town or Sheffield United, Manchester United or Brighton, and Manchester City or Norwich City.
The fourth-round matches are scheduled to take place during the week beginning October 26. Arsenal will therefore have to wait for the draw before knowing both their opponent and whether they will play at home or away.
For now, Arsenal can focus on their Premier League campaign, with Brighton and Hove Albion their next scheduled opponents on Saturday, September 19.
