Jordan Wike Ordered to Produce American Passport as $2.1m Abuja Land Fraud Trial Continues in Maitama High Court
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama has ordered Jordan Ezenwo Nyesom-Wike, son of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, to produce his American passport in court. The Jordan Wike passport order was made on Tuesday as the trial of a $2.1 million fraud suit against him resumed.
The suit, marked CV/008/2026, was filed by Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited. The claimants allege that they met Jordan in London, where they developed a rapport, and that about three months later they met again in Abuja. They say they approached him for help in acquiring land in the Federal Capital Territory, and that he agreed to facilitate the acquisition of 30 hectares in Katampe and another 30 hectares in Guzape.
At Tuesday’s hearing, Justice Sylvanus Oriji made the passport order after an application by the claimants’ counsel, Hamza Dantani. Reports say Dantani first asked the court to have Jordan write his full name on plain paper five times and to sign the same number of times. When asked which passport he used for travel, Jordan reportedly replied that it was his American passport and that he could produce it if requested. Counsel then applied for the document to be produced in court, and the judge granted the request.
The reports do not say why the passport is needed. Its production follows a line of questioning about the defendant’s identity, name and signature, but the court has not made any finding of fact on that. The hearing was adjourned until Wednesday for continuation, and Jordan has been directed to bring the passport to court.
It is important to stress that the case is a civil suit at an early stage of trial. The allegations are those of the claimants, and Jordan has not been found liable for anything. Sahara Reporters, which first published the details, did not carry a response from him in the account seen, and no statement from Jordan or from Minister Wike was found in the reports reviewed. Both may respond as the proceedings go on.
Land allocation in Abuja is a frequent source of litigation. Disputes over plots in districts such as Katampe and Guzape regularly reach the courts, often involving claims about documentation, payments and authority to allocate. The FCT Administration, led by Wike, controls land administration in the capital, which is why any case linked to a member of his family draws public attention. The minister’s role is not part of the claims described in the reports of this suit.
Legal observers say orders of this kind, requiring a party to produce documents or provide handwriting samples, are common in civil trials where authenticity and identity are contested. They do not indicate how the case will end.
The next hearing, scheduled for Wednesday, is expected to show whether the passport was produced and how the court proceeds with the claimants’ evidence. Further updates will depend on developments in court.
