Liverpool Confirm Bradley Barcola Signing From PSG in Club’s Second-Biggest Deal Ever
Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of French forward Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, completing one of the standout deals of the summer transfer window as the club looks to fill the attacking void left by the departure of long-time talisman Mohamed Salah.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the AXA Training Centre after passing his medical, in a deal worth up to £123 million, comprising a guaranteed £106 million plus a further £17 million in potential add-ons. The fee falls some way short of the £145 million PSG had initially demanded for the winger, but still represents a landmark outlay for Liverpool, making Barcola the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history, behind only the £125 million deal that brought striker Alexander Isak to Anfield from Newcastle United last summer. His arrival is officially subject to international clearance being finalised.
Speaking after completing the move, Barcola did not hide his excitement at finally securing a switch to Merseyside. “It took a long time but I’m really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play,” he said. He added that winning the Premier League ranked among his biggest personal dreams and explained that signing a long-term contract reflected his intention to build a lasting career at the club, having previously experienced the atmosphere at Anfield as an opponent and been struck by the fervent backing given to Liverpool’s players by their supporters.
Barcola joined PSG from Lyon in 2023 for an initial €45 million and quickly established himself as an important figure in the club’s recent run of success, contributing to back-to-back Ligue 1 and Champions League titles. Last season alone, he made 49 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists, and also featured for France at this summer’s World Cup, scoring three times for Les Bleus. Sources close to the deal indicated Barcola had been unwilling to consider any other destination this summer as he sought a fresh challenge away from Paris, having found first-team opportunities increasingly limited amid strong competition from teammates including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.
Barcola will wear the number 29 shirt at Liverpool and becomes the club’s fifth new arrival of the summer, following the earlier additions of winger Victor Munoz and defenders Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo and Ifeanyi Ndukwe. According to reports, further Liverpool signings could still follow before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, as head coach Andoni Iraola continues shaping his squad ahead of a title defence that follows Salah’s departure as a free agent at the end of last season after nine years on Merseyside.
With Barcola now officially confirmed as Liverpool’s marquee summer addition, attention turns to how quickly he can settle into Iraola’s side and begin making an impact as the club looks to replace the goals and creativity that departed alongside its former Egyptian talisman.
