Nigeria’s celebrity boxing scene is set for one of its biggest nights yet as content creator Carter Efe and rapper Speed Darlington prepare to face each other in the ring on October 1. The bout, tagged “Chaos in the Ring,” will take place at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos, coinciding with Nigeria’s Independence Day.
A Rivalry Years in the Making
The fight will be the first time Efe and Darlington have met in the ring, though both are established figures on Nigeria’s growing celebrity boxing circuit. Organisers Balmoral Promotions officially announced the date and venue on September 6. The build-up has been heated, with the two entertainers exchanging taunts at a press conference and in various public appearances since.
Carter Efe’s Rise in the Ring
Carter Efe enters the bout as the reigning celebrity boxing champion after defeating singer Habeeb “Portable” Badmus by unanimous decision in May at Chaos in the Ring 4. All three judges scored that three-round contest 30-27 in his favour. The win ended Portable’s unbeaten run in the celebrity boxing circuit, a streak that had included victories over actor Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington himself.
Speed Darlington’s Redemption Bid
Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, is looking to bounce back after a rough outing in 2025. He faced Portable that year in a bout born out of a payment dispute and lost by technical knockout after failing to continue into the second round. Following Efe’s win over Portable, Darlington challenged Efe to a fight, setting up the October 1 clash.
