Osun Election Results: Adeleke Wins Ede North By Landslide In #OsunDecides2026
Incumbent Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has won his home Local Government Area, Ede North, by a wide margin, according to results announced at Saturday’s collation centre for the state’s governorship election.
The Ede North Local Government Area Collation Officer, Jacob Opele, announced the aggregate results at the LGA collation centre, declaring Adeleke the winner with 35,427 votes. His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 10,283 votes, giving Adeleke a commanding margin of 25,144 votes in his political stronghold. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, trailed further behind with 307 votes in the local government.
Ede North, regarded as one of Adeleke’s key support bases, was closely watched throughout the collation exercise given its significance to the governor’s re-election bid. The result builds on an earlier show of strength for Adeleke at the polling unit level, where he had comfortably won his own unit, Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, polling 421 votes against APC’s 29, triggering jubilation among his supporters who took to the streets in celebration.
The Ede North outcome forms part of a broader pattern emerging across the state as collation progressed. According to the latest aggregation from the Nigeria Open Data (INEC EC8A Results Aggregation) portal, updated as of Saturday evening, Adeleke had emerged the clear provisional leader in the governorship race, polling 452,072 votes, representing 51.8 per cent of votes counted from 3,291 of the state’s 3,763 polling units, about 87.5 per cent of the total. Oyebamiji followed with 373,003 votes, representing 42.8 per cent, putting Adeleke ahead by roughly 79,000 votes at that stage and giving him a provisional lead in 23 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
Beyond Ede North, Adeleke also recorded a strong showing in neighbouring Ede South, as well as in other major population centres including Ile-Ife, Osogbo and Iwo, areas historically seen as decisive in Osun governorship contests. Reports also indicated the governor won at symbolically significant polling units, including those of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola in Okuku and former Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore, both of whom had publicly declared support for Oyebamiji ahead of the election. However, Oyebamiji recorded a landslide win of his own at the polling unit of former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Ilesa, underlining that support remained divided along local lines in parts of the state.
Despite the strength of Adeleke’s numbers, election officials and observers stressed that the results declared at LGA collation centres remain provisional and subject to final review and approval by the INEC Returning Officer at the state’s final collation centre in Osogbo. The distinction between a provisional leader and an officially declared winner remains significant, with the final outcome to be determined only after collation from all 30 local government areas is completed and formally announced by INEC. The electoral process, while recording notable turnout, was reportedly marred in places by isolated incidents of vote-buying and violence, even as INEC and security agencies worked to ensure the credibility of the exercise.
