Papa Ajasco Actor Denies Car Gift Claims, Says He Still Treks Despite Donations
Veteran Nollywood actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, widely known for his role in Papa Ajasco & Company, has addressed the growing controversy surrounding donations and alleged gifts, insisting that he is still struggling with transportation despite public support.
The actor made the clarification during a recent interview, where he debunked viral claims that he received a car and a large cash gift following a wave of sympathy from Nigerians. The controversy began after his earlier interview with Lucky Udu, where he opened up about financial hardship, reigniting public concern about his welfare.
Following the interview, many Nigerians contributed financially to support the veteran entertainer. Ayoyinka confirmed that donations came from individuals across the country and abroad, adding that the total amount received was close to ₦6 million. He explained that most of the contributions were sent in small amounts, reflecting the goodwill of ordinary Nigerians.
Despite the financial assistance, the actor dismissed widespread claims that he received a brand-new car or $25,000. He stated clearly that such reports were false and misleading. According to him, some people even visited his residence expecting to see the alleged vehicle, but he had none to show them.
“I am still trekking and jumping the bus,” he said, emphasizing that he continues to rely on public transportation for his daily movement.
The situation has also been complicated by differing accounts from Wale Adenuga, the creator of the sitcom, who previously stated that the actor had benefited from support during his time on the show, including access to vehicles. However, Ayoyinka clarified that any car he had in the past was an old model he purchased years ago, which he no longer owns.
In addition, tensions arose between the actor and Lucky Udu, with the media personality accusing him of not showing enough appreciation. Ayoyinka, however, denied the allegation and maintained that he expressed gratitude to both Udu and his supporters for helping revive his public image.
The development has continued to spark conversations about the welfare of veteran actors in Nigeria, especially regarding financial stability and the absence of structured royalties in the entertainment industry.
