Toyin Lawani Sparks Debate Over Similar Facial Features Among Lagos Women
Celebrity fashion designer Toyin Lawani has stirred conversation online after questioning a trend she says she has noticed among some Lagos women, pointing out what she describes as a growing sameness in their facial features and asking where exactly they are sourcing their new looks from.
In a video shared on social media, Lawani observed that an increasing number of women in Lagos appear to now share strikingly similar features, particularly long jaws and plump lips, creating what she described as a near-identical appearance across the city’s social scene. “There is something going on in Lagos. Everybody is starting to look alike. I see you today, next day, long jaw,” she said in the clip.
Lawani went further, directly questioning the source of the changes she says she has observed. “All Lagos girls are starting to look alike with their long jaws and plump lips. Where una dey collect the face?” she asked, using the popular Nigerian Pidgin phrase to probe where the trend was originating from. She specifically referenced the city’s fashionable social set often referred to as “Lagos baddies,” noting that many within that group now present a strikingly similar enhanced appearance. “All the Lagos baddies are just looking alike,” she added.
The comments, which quickly circulated online, tap into a broader and increasingly public conversation in Nigeria around cosmetic enhancement, particularly procedures aimed at altering jawlines and lip shapes, which have grown more visible on social media and among public figures in recent years. Lawani, known for her outspoken and often unfiltered commentary on trends within Lagos’s entertainment and social circles, has previously weighed in on beauty and fashion-related conversations throughout her career.
Best known as the founder and CEO of Tiannah’s Place Empire, a business group spanning multiple ventures, Lawani has built a long-standing public profile as a fashion designer, stylist and television personality.
