Confederation of African Football (CAF) insists that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will go ahead as planned in Morocco, despite growing protests across the country. CAF president Patrice Motsepe spoke at a meeting in Kinshasa and said the organisation is “absolutely confident” that nothing will derail Morocco’s hosting. He emphasised that Morocco remains “plan A, plan B and plan C.”

The protests have lasted for over a week, led mainly by youth demanding better social services, education reform, and a stronger stance against corruption. The unrest has raised fears over security, logistics, and whether Morocco can deliver on its commitments as host.

Despite those concerns, CAF says it is working closely with the Moroccan government and local authorities to handle the challenges. Motsepe noted that CAF would co-operate with all stakeholders to host what it hopes will be “the most successful AFCON in history.”

Morocco is scheduled to host the tournament from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, across nine venues. Twenty-four national teams are expected to compete, featuring top African talent.

While CAF maintains a firm stance, observers say that sustained instability could still test the plans. Security arrangements, venue readiness and crowd controls will draw close attention in the coming weeks. For now, CAF seems determined to keep Morocco as the host without changes.
