Nigerian travel content creator Tayo Aina has revealed that his decision to obtain citizenship from Saint Kitts & Nevis for $150,000 came after repeated travel frustrations caused by having a Nigerian passport.

Tayo said that his passport from Nigeria often led to visa denials, detentions, and rejections whenever he tried to travel. He explained that some visa applications were rejected just because immigration officials treated his Nigerian nationality as suspicious, as if he might not return or had unclear intentions. These experiences, he said, were frequent over many years.

He disclosed that the new citizenship gives him a passport that allows him much greater ease of travel, so he can move freely and document his journeys without the repeated obstacles he encountered previously. He tweeted that “after spending the past few years getting denied, rejected, and detained because of my Nigerian passport, I paid $150,000 to get a New Citizenship.”

In speaking about challenges with his Nigerian passport, Tayo Aina also mentioned painful moments such as being detained in South Africa, denied entry in Dubai, arrested in Ethiopia, and being treated with disrespect in Kenya. These incidents, he said, deeply affected him and made him want a change.

For Tayo, acquiring the Saint Kitts & Nevis citizenship is not just about luxury or status. He framed it as a practical choice to overcome the repeated limitations that came with his previous nationality. He believes the investment will allow him to travel freely, film without obstacles, and share his work with global audiences more easily.
