Mr P: Mum Asked Paul and Jude to Apologise Before She Died
Nigerian singer Peter “Mr P” Okoye has alleged that his late mother, Josephine Okoye, repeatedly urged his brothers Paul and Jude Okoye to apologise to him and his wife, Lola Omotayo-Okoye, over how the family treated the couple, but claimed the apology never came before her death in 2012.
Mr P made the claim in the eighth instalment of an ongoing tell-all video series he has been sharing on social media, in which he has continued revisiting the events surrounding the collapse of P-Square and the strained relationships within the Okoye family. According to the 44-year-old, when he explained to his mother the full circumstances of how the family had reacted to his relationship with Lola and the birth of their child, she assured him that his brothers would apologise. He recalled her telling him not to worry, promising she would personally speak to his brothers about making things right.
Peter said his mother, who had returned to Jos after the conversation, later called him about a week afterward to check whether an apology had been made. He told her that only their firstborn brother had apologised at that point, to which she reassured him that the rest would eventually follow. According to Peter, a few more weeks passed before their brother Henry also apologised, but neither Paul nor Jude, the two brothers he lived with at the time, ever did. He said that over the following months, as time passed without any apology from either of them, their mother’s health eventually declined and she died before the matter was ever resolved.
The singer’s mother reportedly died in 2012 at a hospital in India following heart surgery, after initially being admitted to St. Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island before being transferred abroad for further treatment.
The claim forms part of a broader set of allegations Peter has made throughout the video series, including accusations that Jude and Paul had opposed Lola’s pregnancy years earlier and that an anonymous email questioning the paternity of his then-unborn child had circulated within the family. Peter also used the same instalment to push back against longstanding claims that Lola had a poor relationship with his late mother, insisting the two women remained close and that Lola personally cared for his mother during her illness, staying with her at the hospital until midnight and driving visiting pastors home each day for months.
Responding to the fresh allegations, Paul, popularly known as Rudeboy, did not directly address the specific claims but shared a brief message on social media addressing their late mother, which was widely interpreted by fans and commentators as an implicit response defending her memory.
The renewed exchange marks the latest development in a long-running and increasingly public dispute involving Peter, Paul, and their elder brother Jude, which has in recent weeks touched on allegations of financial misconduct, disputes over royalties and company management, and now deeply personal matters concerning their late mother and Peter’s marriage.
