‘They Wanted Her to Abort My Baby’ — Peter Okoye Breaks Down
Nigerian singer and songwriter Peter Okoye, one half of the now-defunct music duo P-Square, broke down in tears while recounting a painful chapter from his past, alleging that his twin brother Paul and elder brother Jude pressured his then-girlfriend, Lola, to terminate her pregnancy after he publicly announced it years ago.
Speaking in a recent video shared on his Instagram page, Peter recalled that when he was 27 years old, Lola, who is now his wife, became pregnant with their first child. He explained that he made the decision to announce the pregnancy himself rather than allow the news to break through another source, citing concerns at the time about how celebrity paternity situations were commonly handled and his desire to avoid the kind of controversy surrounding multiple “baby mamas” that other public figures had faced.
According to Peter, the announcement came during the Soundcity Awards, shortly after he and P-Square received an award on stage. He said that after dedicating the award to God, their fans, and everyone who had supported the group, he went on to dedicate it specifically to the mother of his then-unborn child, publicly confirming Lola’s pregnancy in the process.
Peter alleged that the announcement was not well received by Paul and Jude, claiming that his brothers believed the revelation would damage P-Square’s public image and negatively affect the group’s career. He alleged that immediately after the dedication, Jude and Paul walked out, insisting that the announcement would ruin their career and that Lola should terminate the pregnancy. Recounting the moment visibly emotional, Peter described it as one of the most defining and painful experiences of his life and career.
The claims form part of a broader series of video revelations Peter has released in recent weeks detailing long-standing grievances within the Okoye family, spanning allegations about the treatment of Lola by family members, disputes over P-Square’s royalties and business management, and tension surrounding the collapse of the group’s earlier reunion. His brother Paul, known professionally as Rudeboy, has separately responded to related claims about their late mother, while their elder brother Jude has pushed back on other aspects of Peter’s account through his own public statements.
The unfolding family dispute has drawn significant public attention across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with numerous celebrities and public figures weighing in and, in several cases, expressing support for Peter following the revelations. Commentators including social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, have urged the public to withhold judgment until all parties involved, including Paul and Jude, have had the opportunity to share their own accounts of what transpired.
